As Tokyo Olympics are underway, sports lovers across the globe are fanatically watching their favorite players fighting for the medals. To make this sporting extravaganza even exciting, social network giant Facebook has introduced some new innovative tools including a dedicated Games hub, AR effects for Stories, and video highlights.
Facebook’s New Features Dedicated to Tokyo Olympics
These features are available in select countries. They are designed to help fans access highlights from Tokyo 2020, athlete profiles, and interviews throughout the Games via official Olympic broadcasters’ Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts.
Games Hub for Tokyo Olympics
The first feature to discuss is the Games hub. The tool acts as an information hub where you can find highlights, team and athlete overviews, explainers of the events, and much more in a single place. In addition to this, the hub features exclusive notes on Olympic history.
The tool shows posts and feeds of your community and friends related to their favorite games from the event. You may follow the hub to get the latest updates about the event. Check out the game hub here.
AR Effects
Another newly added feature is AR effects that allow users to participate in the Games. These two AR effects can be accessed through the effects tabs on both @olympics and @Tokyo2020 accounts.
As reports suggest, one AR effect helps spectators to mirror the movements of the official Olympics mascot Miraitowa and earn AR medals. The second AR effect comprises the official beat music of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
AR effects are designed to offer viewers a way to engage with themed content and participate in the game virtually.
WhatsApp Olympics Chatbot
Meanwhile, Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has also launched a new Olympics chatbot that will provide timely information on the Games schedule, information on local broadcasts, and the latest news and medal standings.
The chatbot is loaded with official Olympics stickers and several engaging and fun-filled event-related quizzes for the viewers. Facebook has also hosted event videos for providing highlights from the Games throughout the event.
