Founded in the early 1990s by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Taiwan Excellence logo honours most innovative products from the island nation that add value to lives of users globally.
All products bearing the symbol are evaluated against stringent benchmarks in R&D, design, quality, marketing and Made-in-Taiwan merits.
Blogging Republic caught up with Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), James CF Huang at the recently concluded Taiwan Expo in New Delhi to gain exclusive insights on the body’s India plans.
Q: What kind of response did you receive at the second edition of Taiwan Expo?
Taiwan Expo was held for the first time last year. The response received by the Taiwan Excellence pavilion was overwhelming, which is the reason why we decided to be back this year.
Over the last couple of years, Taiwan has been aggressively focusing on strengthening trade ties with India. It has also been partnering in the Indian government’s initiatives like Digital India, Make in India and the smart cities mission.
Commercial relations between the two countries have increased manifolds because of
Taiwan utilising its formidable expertise in smart solutions, ICT, pharma, IOT, agriculture, food, machine tools and other fields.
We hope to strengthen our ties further and participate in more and more such events. This year too, the response was great. Visitors reacted very positively to all the products that were on display at the Taiwan Excellence pavilion.
Q: You initially started with a range of hi-tech gadgets that focused mainly on Taiwan’s strong ICT, gaming and IOT industries. But recently you have also included a host of products from other fields. What was the idea behind such diversification?
Taiwan has always had a robust policy of sharing our technical know-how. This is why several Taiwanese brands are going all out to showcase their innovative products and services in India.
Over time, when we introduced products in fields other than ICT, gadget lovers gave us a great response and demanded more such products. So, now we also offer smart consumer products from various segments, including lifestyle, healthcare, etc.
Q: How does an event like Taiwan Expo help in building trade and technological linkages between India and Taiwan?
The total trade between Taiwan and India was the highest in the last five years in 2018. Compared to 2018, this was an increase of 10.87%. For two consecutive years, India was Taiwan’s 16th largest trading partner.
Taiwan Expo aims to provide a boost to improve these relations even further by promoting cooperation and exchanges between the two countries. It also aims to assist manufacturers to expand in various markets in India.
Last year’s Taiwan Expo had attracted more than 18,000 visitors and successfully showcased Taiwan’s diverse strengths in economics, trade, technology, culture and tourism. This year also, Taiwan Expo is contributing majorly in strengthening relations between India and Taiwan.
Q: What kind of product offerings does Taiwan Excellence have this year at Taiwan Expo?
Some very innovative products were showcased in the healthcare, consumer lifestyle and gadgets sections. All the products are equipped with world-class technology and have been created to make users’ lives better, smarter and convenient.
Global Taiwanese brands like ASUS, AVISION, Bubbling Plus, Buder, Edimax, Gigabyte, Optoma, Plustek, Thermaltake, Tokuyo, U.CR+, etc. displayed cutting-edge products. The latest innovative products were from Accton, Bubbling Plus, Edgecore, Edimax, Ennolife, and U.CR+.
Q: Taiwan Excellence is a global promotional campaign. Are there any other upcoming events in India?
We will also have a strong presence at Smart Asia, in October in Mumbai. At that event, we will be focusing more on solutions for smart industries as well as promote a smart lifestyle.
In addition, next month in late June, we will kick off the sixth annual Taiwan Excellence Gaming Cup (TEGC), with its finale scheduled in late September.
TEGC has now become the biggest and longest-running gaming competition in India. This year, we expect a lot more players to display their skills.
