Facebook Trust Indicators Will Fight Against Fake News

Facebook is seriously heading towards a head-on battle with fake news menace. All thanks to its new tool dubbed ‘Trust Indicators’ which is available to select group of publishers on pilot basis.

These indicators will be displayed alongside the article as additional information in context to that article they see and read in the news feed. As of now, Facebook is mulling to process these initial Trust Indicators based on direct feedback from publishers. The feature could be expanded further over time, stated Facebook.

While announcing the feature, Facebook product manager Andrew Anker said in a blog post:

“We believe that helping people access this important contextual information can help them evaluate if articles are from a publisher they trust, and if the story itself is credible.”

With this new tool, readers could easily get information about the brand and media organization the story revolves around. Furthermore, the tool will also enable media organizations share information about their ethics policy, corrections policy, fact-checking policy, ownership structure, and masthead.
