Qualcomm finally unveiled its most power chipset to date, dubbed Snapdragon 855 chipset. The chipset comprising blazing features will triple your smartphone browsing experience. The chipset will hopefully start to power smartphones in early 2019.

With the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the company brings in a few new upgrades in this chipset. Take a look how the new upgrades in the chipset will change smartphones.

1. Massive CPU Performance:

With this upgrade to its chipset, Qualicomm enters the Huawei, MediaTek, and Samsung bandwagon of a tri-cluster CPU arrangement. The tri-cluster CPU arrangement comprises high-end Kryo 485 core clocked at 2.84GHz, three Kryo 485 cores hitting 2.42GHz, and four Kryo 485 cores hitting 1.8GHz.

The company claims that the new chipset is 45% more powerful than Qualcomm’s previous flagship processor. This means, with the tri-cluster arrangement in Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, smartphones will experience faster performance and reduced power consumption

2. Improved GPU Performance:

Qualcomm boasts of its GPUs and claims them the industry’s best. Snapdragon 845 and cheaper chipsets are known for great performance in games and applications that are usually graphic-intensive. With the latest upgrade, Qualcomm will deliver 20 percent better performance from the Adreno 640 GPU.

3. Qualcomm upgrades AI Engine:

So far, Instead of relying on dedicated AI Silicon, Qualcomm used the Hexagon digital signal processor for machine learning tasks. Since, dedicated AI silicon delivers plenty of power in the process, the company finally turned to a new Hexagon 690 processor in Snapdragon 855.

The USP of the Hexagon 690 is a new Hexagon Tensor Accelerator for machine learning tasks and new vector extensions to deliver more nimble performance. The company claims that its new AI Engine delivers seven trillion operations per second and three times the performance of the Snapdragon 845.

4. More Powerful Image Signal Processor:

Image signal processors play a vital role in pursuing the camera quality of a smartphone. Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset has brought major improvements to the Image Signal Processor as well.

The chipset consists of new Spectra 380 ISP that reportedly supports a single 48MP main camera or two 22MP cameras. The chipset even brings support for the new HDR10+ standard, portrait mode for videos, and HEIF support for photos. It’s also being said that Qualcomm may bring support for 4K HDR recording at 60fps.

5. More power to gamers:

The chipset sets to fuel gaming with some added gaming improvements. With its Snapdragon Elite Gaming suite developers can now create programs using advanced features like HDR, physically based rendering, Vulkan 1.1 support, “filmic” tone-mapping, and reduced latency in multiplayer games.
