Title Is Not Critical For Search Ranking, Says Google

Amid growing speculations about a major algorithm update being rolled out, Google has made a big revelation. In a webmaster hangout, Googler John Mueller said a very interesting thing about ‘Title’ tags. He said that Title of a particular page / post is not as critical as the content itself.

He elaborated further that Google can rank a page without a title tag, but missing or ambiguous content may affect the search rankings. As per Mueller, if a page is published and indexed without appropriate title, its ranking won’t be affected. However, spam, spun or fluff content on the page may hurt page rankings.
