Samsung Stretchable OLED Display To Be Launched Tomorrow

Finally the stage is set for world’s first stretchable OLED display phone. Tech magnet Samsung is going to display its maiden stretchable OLED Display phone at Display Week conference tomorrow. A report published in The Korea Herald said that it will be a 9.1-inch stretchable OLED panel having ability to bend up to 12mm in both the directions.

The technology is said to be the most advanced form of flexible display tech world ever seen. The display could be bent, folded and rolled accordingly. Albeit, the technology is new to the world, its launch tomorrow would force others as well to follow the suit and manufacture the same technology.

A representative of the company said:

“While current flexible OLED is able to be transformed in only one side, this stretchable OLED can be transformed — whether curved, bended or rolled — in both sides, above and below.”

Samsung sources confirmed that the technology is in testing phase and not yet ready for the mass production. This could be a hint that in few years down the line, the technology would be available for commercial use in form of smartphones and other consumer products.

Besides this, samsung is reportedly launching a 5.09-inch glassless 3D OLED panel tomorrow. The device will add more to users’ multimedia and VR experience. The display can reproduce objects in the panel, which change depending on the viewers’ position. This seems pretty helpful in case of 3-D pop-up books, 3-D games and virtual reality.

Another device to be unveiled tomorrow at Samsung Display is a 1.96-inch ultra-high-definition LCD for virtual reality, augmented reality and holographic experiences. The display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 translates to a pixel density of 2250ppi.

Moreover, if rumor mills are right, the company is said to be working on OLED panels for use in Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone.
