Rahul Gandhi, the AICC vice president is now on Twitter. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi’s office officially launched an official Twitter handle @OfficeOfRG on the social networking site. Within hours of its launch, the handle registered over 21000 followers and counting.

In an e-mail message, Rahul Gandhi’s office said:

We are happy to launch the Twitter account of the Office of Mr. Rahul Gandhi @OfficeOfRG.

An official from his office confirmed the launch and said that it’s an official account and not his personal account of the AICC Vice President. It was said that Rahul Gandhi will not be tweeting via the account. It will be handled by his office only.

The official said:

This is the official account of the Office of Rahul Gandhi | Member of Parliament | Vice President, Indian National Congress.

The very first tweet made via this handle was:

Watch this space for information and updates on Rahul Gandhi’s official programs and upcoming events.

The next tweet was posted to announce Rahul’s proposed padyatra in Telangana state.

On 12th May Rahul Gandhi will begin a 15km padyatra in Telangana’s Adilabad Dist- covering 5 villages, starting from Wadial Village.

The attempt is being seen as an effort from India’s oldest political outfit to convey its VP’s programmes and movements to the common people quickly and effectively. So far, e-mails, SMSes and Press Releases were the only mode used in the party to communicate such programs and events.
