IRCTC Ties Up With Amazon To Sell Items Online
Indian Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of Indian Railways is in talks with e-commerce legend Amazon to start selling items from IRCTC portal.
The company started negotiations last year with e-retailing majors Flipkart and Amazon and finally settled with the latter.
This is not the first time when IRCTC will get into e-selling business but in 2013 the company launched its e-commerce page in association with fashion and lifestyle retailer Yebhi.com.
Through the page, the company sold items related to various categories including apparel, electronics, accessories, furnishings and kids.
IRCTC’s contract with Yebhi didn’t work well for various reasons and lasted for a short period of one year.
The move is being looked as IRCTC’s attempt to leverage the strength of its 21 million registered user base and convert them into potential customers for third party e-commerce vendors like Amazon.
