India Gate Turns Orange To Celebrate UN’s Violence Against Women Campaign

Today, you might have seen India gate lit up in orange color. The monument has been given that color to celebrate the International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women as a part of global Orange the World campaign. The event was co-organized by UNFPA India, UNDP and UN in India as part of the United Nations global campaign that is set to continue till December 10, designated as the UNs Human Rights Day.

Sumitra Mahajan, the Lok Sabha speaker, inaugurated the event and in her opening remarks she emphasized that the issue of woman empowerment should be the topmost priority right now. She said that during her tenure as a minister, people celebrated women empowerment day every year.
