Hike Messenger Acquires Zip Phone, An US-based Voice Calling App

Hike, an India based chat application has announced its first ever acquisition today. The company bought US-based voice calling setup Zip Phone.

The step is being seen as the company’s plan to expand their product range. The company hasn’t however disclosed the amount fixed for the deal. The acquisition will surely help Hike in setting their feet in the internet based communication.

Kavin Bharti Mittal, the CEO and founder of Hike said in his press note:

“From day one we’ve strongly believed that through communication, we can bring India online. With the acquisition we take one more step towards that mission. Zip Phone’s technology will allow us to bring free voice calling to the market much faster.

Jain added that this is the feature we were keen to have and our customers consistently had asked for.

“As a start-up enthusiast, I had been keeping a close eye on Hike and its developments and I am excited to now be a part of one of the biggest and fastest growing startups in the Indian Internet space and finally, building for India,” Jain said.

Hike was launched in December 2012. The chat application enjoys 35 million users. Ever since it made to the fore, Hike has been giving tough competition to other popular chat apps such as WhatsApp, Line and Viber. Interestingly, Hike has the youngest user base among all as 90 pc of its users are below 25 years of age and from India.
