Government Plans Panic Button In Mobile Phones Sold In India
Considering women safety being the top priority, government of India is now planning to make panic buttons mandatory in the phones sold in India. During the launch event of Raksha app, Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi said that every cell phone sold in India would now have an in-built panic button.
In case of an emergency, a woman can just press the panic button to get an immediate help.
Mrs. Gandhi said that government is concerned at the growing crime rate against the woman. They have received several suggestions from people on how to improve women safety in the country.
“Why should we do that? Are women prisoners so they always have to move with these devices? How can we ensure availability, affordability and usage of these devices among rural women?”
She said that if phones would be equipped with an in-built panic button, women would feel safer in unwarranted and emergency situations.
