Google hinted at its I/O conference that it will soon begin showing podcast in search results. The feature is now being rolled out for both the mobile and desktop search results.
Head of product of Google podcast, Zack Reneau-Wedeen tweeted the news. The tweet reads:
“Rolling out this week you’ll be able to search for and play podcasts directly in Google Search across Android, iOS, and desktop browsers, a step toward making audio a first-class citizen across Google.”
This is how it will look in mobile:
The feature will show up in search results with following attributes:
Deeper Podcast search:
The search results pop up deeper podcast search. The feature doesn’t only search for the title or Meta data of the podcasts but also can search for the audio directly within the podcast show itself.
Podcast markup:
The feature comes up with special Podcast structured data that lets users help Google with discovering and understanding users’ podcast.
Google said that as feature is rolling out it can help podcast to appear in Google Search results and Google Podcasts. The results will appear along with individual episode descriptions and an embedded player for each.
Podcast markup feature is available through the Google Search App for following:
- Android (requires v6.5 or higher of the Google Search App)
- Google Podcasts app
- Chrome for Android
- Google Home
- Google Assistant
Googler Zack Reneau-Wedeen said that with the feature podcasters will finally get more visibility in search to their content.
Google also recommended podcasters to properly use Podcast markup for maximum visibility of their podcasts.
