China’s .Cn Becomes The Top Most Used Domain Extension, Surpassed Germany’s .De
China’s country code domain extension .cn becomes the top most used extension used by 16.36 million users. It surpassed Germany’s ‘.de’ extension, which earlier hold the rank. A data released by China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) says that .cn’ had 16.36 million users by the end of 2015.
Agency said that China began to require real-name registration in 2009. The ‘.cn domain primarily focuses on users’ interests and reduce online theft, phishing and fraud.
A year back or so, Germany’s .de extension had the maximum number of websites registered with the name. .Cn is equally and widely used by Chinese institutions and companies, overseas institutions and multinationals. China’s leading websites of central and provincial governments, telecom companies and commercial banks use .cn country code extension, Xinhua news agency reported.
Other multinational companies that use the extension are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Citibank. Officially, China has around 670 million internet users and over 4.13 million websites.
